Hope Through Kindness
Spiritual Tree
Catherine blocked out the voices of encouragement as she lifts her right foot off the ledge, ready to jump to her death, a voice burst through above the rest and said, “Go ahead, jump, throw away the hope your love ones have in you.”
Those words pulled her right foot back as a soft breeze slowly eased her back steadily. The voice seems closer, “throw-away the kind deed you did yesterday before Sharon can thank you. Throw away the kind idea you gave to your enemy before she realized its value. Throw away the kind thought you gave to the beggar on the street last night. Throw away the helping hand you lift to help the stranger, the ear you use to listen to the ones who just need to be heard, and the smile and encouragement you gave to the crying child last week. You might think you don’t have a lot of hope now for yourself, but you have given hope to many through your kind deeds, thoughts, and ideas. If you can’t live for yourself, then live for the hope you share with others through your kindness.”
Catherine stared into the crowd following the voice that seems to silence everyone. She saw herself among the crowd, staring up at her as she stepped back into reality. She realized that hope was speaking through her. Hope never leaves us, it lives in the good we give and do unto others.
It will continue to grow through our kind deeds, actions, thoughts, and ideas. Start giving each other hope today through kindness.
