How is that possible, when the black race is a small percentage of the US population?

According to prisonpolicy.org, approximately 40% of the prison population in the U.S. is black. Sentencingproject.org tells us that black men are 6 times as likely to be incarcerated as white men…

How is that possible, when the black race is a small percentage of the US population? According to a US census, 76.3% are white compared to 13.4% black. How th ehell is that even possible?
