I agree with you.

I don’t have a Christmas tree myself, but if I did, I would take it to my backyard, let it dry out, and use the needles as mulch or fertilizer. The trunk could serve as a stake for vines like nasturtium or peas. That’s just my perspective, though — I’m sure others might think differently.
