In my culture, we visit doctors as a last resort.

I would make progress but then completely dismantle any inroads. I was victimizing myself and while I knew it, I could not figure out how to stop. I would trudge back-and-forth to the therapist with my checkbook to take the pills and talk about the long ago only to have the right now go up in smoke. Hot ash, an empty checking account, and obesity (thanks Paxil) were all I got in exchange.
