It cut both ways, sometimes.

From a personal perspective, I believe that lots of men refuse to marry because it is such a one sided contract. In far too many cases, come a divorce and the woman gets the lion’s share of assets, if not all. First the woman gives the man a darn good kick in the balls, then she gets the authorities to cut them off!
