Jean’s son and mine attended the same primary school and went on to the same high school. We would meet at PTA Meetings over the years. She was always complaining about something. I would listen and offer advice that she took, and many of them worked. So, she would find me at PTA Meetings, and we talked. Our sons finished high school and I didn’t see her again for about three years. One week ago, I met her in the market. She was still complaining. I still listen and offered my best advice, again.
As we exited the market our bags laden with fruits and veggies, she looked at me weird and said, “I know nothing about you.”
“Ah,” was my response stopping abruptly.
She did the same, then said, “Someone asked me about you the other day, and I realize that I know nothing about you. You never complain about anything. I have known you for seven years when our children were in primary school and five years in high school. What, your life is perfect? Don’t you have problems?”
Before I could respond, a voice behind me said, “ladies you are causing a traffic jam.”
I glanced behind me, reading the frustration on the faces of the women I was impeding as the market was crowded today. I quickly move forward, Jean following behind me. I smiled thinking, she never asked me anything about…
