Information this vital should be posted everywhere. I was always an aware and alert child and I noticed the interest males thrust on me very early. In those days we didn’t have a name for it. Today we do. Yes, I am that old. Fear was always my response. I stayed away from them. I take nothing they offered and don’t talk too much to them. I got lots of attention as a teen and a female, and it scared the crap out of me.
I don’t find their attention, the words they say to me, the offers of gifts and other stuff flattering. I could read deep into how they looked at me. The smile on their faces when they talked showed me what was in their thoughts. Yes, I could read their emotions, and I didn’t like what I read! We got no sex education talks, lessons or anything to protect us from these predators.
My instincts were alive, and that’s what saved me many times. In my culture, sex abuse was covered, and the victims were blamed, not protected. And the more money and prestige he had, the more protection he got. And many of them got away with their abuse of children because of the high level of poverty in my country and many other countries around the world. Sadly, it’s still going on all over the world.
