The ringing of the telephone awoke Joan from her restless sleep, turning around glancing at the LED-lit clock to her right, it said 11:37 P.M. The caller ID on her phone alerted, “son.”

At the end of the line a familiar voice screamed, “Mom, I missed the last bus.”

Joan sighed, sitting up yawning, then asked, “Were you looking for the bus or on your cellphone?”

“Mom, I was inside the Deli sheltering from the cold and he didn’t stop to see if anyone was in there waiting on the bus. Everyone waits in the Deli and the other drivers stop,” he complains.

Calmly Joan repeated the question, “Son, were you looking for the bus?”

“Come on Mom, he is supposed to stop, it’s a bus stop,” he defended himself badly for a child who wished to be a lawyer.

“Son, if you want the bus to stop, you have to be at the bus stop. You can’t always rely on humanity in humans, but you must rely on common sense.”

The bus fare was $1.75. The Uber fare was $23.60. He had a part-time job, so he paid it himself, unwillingly. If we can’t see the wrong in the things we do, it is going to continue to cost us. Hopefully, not our lives, and those of others. Life can be so simple if we just do the right things. Common sense only cost us, when it’s not used.
