Tag & Thank

Taking one last look backward. Kate Mills was glad she left homelessness, hunger, the pain of betrayal by family and friends, drug addiction, loneliness, and all things negative behind. As she stepped forward after receiving her award for the Most Talented Writer of the year, the $100, 000 cheque it came with, and the movie rights up for auction, a voice said, “I knew you were going to make it big!”

Kate flips her head following the familiar voice, then asked, “What are you doing here?” turning to face her two half-siblings and their spouses.

“We are family and we are here to support you. Congrats on your award,” her half-sister congratulated her.

Kate smiled, as years of pain inflicted by them suddenly felt lighter.

“Thank you for the support, but you can’t be a part of the DREAM if you weren’t a part of the NIGHTMARES.”

Some people fled from your life when the storm began to rage and return when the sun starts to shine. Tag and thank the ones that stay for the nightmares and the storms.
