The Yellow Hibiscus

“Things were running too smoothly. Someone in the Justice Department was very curious, too curious. I guess whosoever it was, believed, that anything that’s too good to be true, usually is.

They started to doubt ‘my’ story when the wiretap proved nothing. I had to act fast. With the Shades dead I could buy time since I had already removed their identity. With that, I had to have them killed. The State Department would stop for a while, to evaluate the credibility of my story. I needed more time. I needed to know who you were, and I needed a reason to have you killed. I knew they would send someone to the Shades’ house to seek answers to many puzzling questions.”
