The Yellow Hibiscus
Flash Fiction
“Unfortunately, three people in New York are dead after encountering the woman with the Diamond,” Sgt. Booker reported.
“If she knows anything about it, she wouldn’t go showing it to people. So, I am going to assume she doesn’t know,” Captain Gellent said.
“But what if she comes here and you have a repeat of what happened in New York. That’s if she isn’t here already?” Sgt. Booker feared.
Captain Gellent sighed deeply. “I suppose she could connect the dots…,” his eyes clouded over.
Sgt. Booker was searching them for something more than he was willing to reveal.
Captain Gellent pulled down the mask even further and asked. “Apart from the florist, who else has witnessed what the diamond has done?”
“You haven’t answered my first question. How about I answer one question from you, and you answer one question from me,” Sgt. Booker suggested, and continued, “How can a diamond kill?”
“You will get your answer in time Sgt. Booker. That’s my answer. Now you answer mine,” Captain Gellent commanded. “Is the florist the only eyewitness besides the person who possesses the diamond?”
“I think so,” Sgt. Booker forced out.
