They allowed surgery without it. Why? This is cruel.

…I was taken to see the Professor who had been my surgeon. I had come to think of him like an uncle. He suggested it was time to remove the titanium plates which had kept my skull from growing back together. I asked whether I could have an anesthetic this time. He said no, even though I begged him.
