What Color is Your Heart?
Do all of us have the same color heart?
Pediatric Nurse Christine Binns was livid, and these words erupted from her rage, “How can you give up on her? She just lost both parents in an avoidable accident. She needs her family now!”
“I am sorry, but we can’t take responsibility for an invalid two-year-old dependent child.”
“You don’t understand, when she comes out of a coma she will need the love of a family. For God’s sake, you are her mother’s sister. She is your niece. Don’t you feel anything for her?”
“You don’t understand!” Ingrid Malcolm screams. “We already sign the papers, she is the State’s problem now!”
“Please,” Nurse Binns begs. “Don’t give up on her.”
She sat facing Dr.Camile Jackson, the head of the Pediatric Department.
“Sorry, we can’t,” she said without an ounce of empathy.
Clenching her teeth Nurse Binns demands, “Get out of here before I forget that I am human.”
She quickly jumps up and rushes out as if the building was on fire.
Nurse Binns fought to control her rage, as Dr. Jackson waited for her to calm down. Then said, “I am sorry, but it’s out of our hands.”
“No, it’s not!”
