While in my bedroom, my heart beats rapidly, skipping a bit but making it abundantly clear that it’s overworking. On alert, I can’t relax as I sit in my favorite chair in my own home. I hear a loud noise from outside, and, for a split second, my brain thinks the shooting is happening again.
