Slippers are African mothers’ preferred choice of a weapon passed from generation to generation. At least in my tribe here in Kenya. They use it to beat us when we steal sugar or point it as a warning to the neighbors’ kids so that they don’t ask for extra food or threaten the drunk adults that they’ll get beaten if they speak one more abusive word.
